Hire for attitude, train for skill.
I love seeing the positive impact my work has on the teams and customers I work with. It makes me sure that I made the right move in choosing my profession.
I applied to Rakuna in my Junior year of college with the desire to get exposure to the startup work environment. The CEO and COO interviewed me, they liked my attitude and saw that I have the potential to grow and become a leader, so they offered me to join Rakuna to support the Online Operations and Marketing teams.
It was fine that my profile did not exactly match the job requirement, and it was fine that I knew nothing about Online Operations and Marketing, but I was eager to learn, and everyone at Rakuna was willing to coach. Everyone was so patient with me and gave me space to make mistakes and learn from them. Eventually, I became the Event Operations Lead, leading a large team to support the back-office operations. Recently, I was promoted to Executive Assistant to the CEO, doing even more challenging and meaningful work.
I love that my job plays on the same curiosity that drew me to the field in the first place. And above all, I love seeing the positive impact my work has on the teams and customers I work with. It makes me sure that I made the right move in choosing my profession.

My programming skills weren’t the top notch, but the CEO and the Head of Product saw the potential to learn and grow in me, and happily offered me to join the team.
I come from Nigeria and have developed an interest in software engineering since young. When I found the Software Engineer vacancy on Rakuna and read about the company, I knew I had to apply right away.
During my recruitment process, the CEO, Head of Product and the Recruiter were all very professional, friendly, and open about who they were looking for. My programming skills weren’t the top notch, but the CEO and the Head of Product saw the potential to learn and grow in me, and offered me to join the team as an intern.
I have been with the Rakuna since early-2018 and I am loving my work at the company as I get to tackle challenging tasks, learn from great mentors and improve my skills. My hope in the long-term is to go back to Nigeria to share my knowledge and skills, and continue contributing to the development of my hometown.
